Official app versus malware
Wallpaper Engine’s official support documentation notes that antivirus tools can sometimes block application files or high-priority startup behavior by mistake. That does not make every warning harmless: verify the installation source before allowing anything.
Safety checklist
- Install the Windows app through its official Steam listing.
- Use Google Play or the official developer page for Android.
- Avoid cracks, torrents, key generators, “Workshop downloaders,” and repacks.
- Do not run executables included with random wallpaper archives.
- If antivirus reports a file, confirm its exact path and source before creating an exception.
Workshop awareness
Wallpaper Engine supports several content types. Read descriptions and comments, keep Steam and security software updated, and remove suspicious or misleading subscriptions. Never enter Steam credentials into third-party wallpaper download sites.
