Windows PC
Buy and install Wallpaper Engine from its official Steam store page. The Windows application includes Workshop access and the editor.
Android
Use the free official companion app from Google Play or the developer’s official Android page. It transfers compatible wallpapers from Windows.
Mac and Linux
There is no official macOS or Linux release according to the developer’s current support documentation.
Is Wallpaper Engine free?
The Windows version is paid software. Search phrases such as “Wallpaper Engine free,” “free Wallpaper Engine,” and “Wallpaper Engine free download” often lead to unofficial copies. Do not download cracked installers, torrents, key generators, or repacked executables.
Safe installation checklist
- Open the official Steam product page.
- Confirm the publisher is Wallpaper Engine Team.
- Install through the Steam client.
- For Android, use Google Play or the official developer download page.
- Do not run executable files advertised as free Workshop wallpaper packs.

Why “free download” results are risky
The Windows application is paid software. Pages promising a free Windows installer may distribute a crack, repack, credential-stealing download, or unrelated adware. The free Android companion app does not include the Windows editor or direct Steam Workshop browsing, and it should not be marketed as a free PC replacement.
- Check that the Windows purchase page is on Steam and lists Wallpaper Engine Team.
- Use the developer's Android page to reach an approved mobile source.
- Reject installers bundled with download managers, browser extensions, or “activation” tools.
- Never enter Steam credentials into a wallpaper mirror.
System and account preparation
Confirm your Windows version meets the current Steam requirements, update the graphics driver, and ensure Steam has enough library space for both the application and future Workshop subscriptions. Wallpaper collections—especially high-resolution videos—can use much more storage than the base application.
Your Steam ownership remains associated with the purchasing account. Reinstall through the Library instead of preserving unofficial setup files. If installation or updates fail, check Steam Downloads and antivirus interference before using a full reset.
