Official platform answer
The main desktop application is designed around Windows integration. The official support site says macOS and Linux are not currently supported and that there are no immediate plans for those ports.
What about compatibility layers?
Community experiments may exist, but they are not the same as an officially supported release. Workshop behavior, video codecs, web wallpapers, editor tools, and desktop integration can break or require manual work.
Choosing an alternative
- Prefer software distributed through a reputable store or the developer’s official site.
- Check whether it supports video, web, multi-monitor, and pause-during-fullscreen behavior.
- Avoid downloads that impersonate Wallpaper Engine branding.
- Review CPU/GPU impact and uninstall instructions before committing.
