Pairing steps
- Install the official Wallpaper Engine Android companion app.
- Open the Mobile section in Wallpaper Engine on Windows.
- Keep both devices on the same local network.
- Enter or confirm the pairing code.
- Choose a compatible wallpaper and send it to the phone.
What Android does
The Android app is a companion, not a standalone copy of the Windows editor or Steam Workshop browser.

Disable VPN isolation temporarily, allow local-network access, and ensure the router does not isolate wireless clients.
Complete pairing walkthrough
- Install the latest official Wallpaper Engine Android companion app. Avoid APK sources not linked by the developer.
- Connect the phone and Windows PC to the same local network.
- In Wallpaper Engine for Windows, select Mobile, then Connect new device. Note the four-digit PIN.
- On Android, choose Add → Pair with Computer, select the detected PC, and enter the PIN.
- After the connection turns green, choose a compatible wallpaper on Windows and use Send to Mobile Device.
- For high-resolution Scene wallpapers, start with the Balanced conversion option if the phone struggles.
What the Android app can and cannot do
The mobile app is a companion to the Windows application. It cannot directly browse or download from Steam Workshop because of technical and legal limitations. Scene wallpapers are optimized during transfer for mobile hardware. You can transfer multiple wallpapers by selecting them on Windows while holding Ctrl.
The app is also not the full Windows editor. Build or edit projects on the PC, then transfer compatible results. Some desktop interactions, aspect ratios, or effects may not translate perfectly to a phone screen.
If the phone cannot find the PC
- Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi or LAN and not separated by a guest network.
- Temporarily disable VPNs and check whether the router uses client isolation.
- Allow Wallpaper Engine through Windows Firewall on private networks.
- Restart both applications and generate a new PIN.
- If wireless pairing remains unavailable, use the official backup method to export a mobile wallpaper package (
.mpkg) and import it manually.
